I'm Mon

Hi

Baby Sleep Consultant in Tauranga, New Zealand

With over a decade of experience working with infants and young children as an Early Childhood Educator, my work as a Baby Sleep Consultant is grounded in both professional expertise and daily, hands-on experience with real children and real families.

I believe every child is unique. There is no “one-size-fits-all” solution to sleep - and there shouldn’t be.

Your baby’s temperament, developmental stage, attachment patterns, and sensory needs all matter. So do your parenting values, cultural beliefs, and comfort levels. My role is not to impose a rigid method, but to partner with you to create a personalised sleep plan that feels aligned, respectful, and sustainable for your family.

A responsive, relationship-first approach

Sleep is not just behavioural; it is biological, neurological, and relational.

In our work together, I consider the neurobiology of infant sleep, age-appropriate sleep rhythms, feeding patterns, growth and development, sleep environment, and the emotional experience of both parent and child. I explain the “why” behind your child’s sleep challenges, so you feel informed and confident - not dependent or confused.

Monica Shortt | Baby Sleep Consultant in Tauranga, New Zealand

When parents understand what is happening beneath the surface, everything shifts. Collaboration is central to my practice. I intentionally build a responsive partnership with you, based on respect, inclusion, and care. You are the expert on your child. I bring evidence-based knowledge and professional experience. Together, we create meaningful change.

Science-informed. Attachment-aware. Family-centred.

There is a common misconception that sleep coaching means “cry it out.” In reality, sleep support exists on a spectrum. Some families prefer minimal crying approaches while others feel comfortable with structured behavioural methods. Most sit somewhere in between.

I offer guidance that ranges from responsive, low-cry strategies through to more structured approaches - always chosen intentionally, explained clearly, and implemented in a way that supports secure attachment and emotional wellbeing.

Healthy sleep is not about rigid rules. It’s about helping your child develop sustainable sleep skills in a way that feels safe and manageable for your whole family.

Local support in Tauranga. Trusted by families across New Zealand.

Based in Tauranga, I support families locally throughout the Bay of Plenty, as well as nationwide through virtual consultations.

As both a certified baby sleep consultant and a full-time early childhood teacher, I bring together developmental knowledge, behavioural science, and real-world caregiving experience. My guidance is practical, realistic, and rooted in what actually works - not just in theory.

Sleep deprivation can feel overwhelming. But with the right support, it is absolutely possible to move from exhaustion to confidence.

And that transformation changes more than just the night!
